How Our Multi-Layer Pads Work
Glenndarcy washable pads have a multi-layer construction, with six fabric layers in sizes A–D and five layers in size E. Each pad combines a soft synthetic suede upper surface, absorbent bamboo-cotton layers and a waterproof-backed base.
Washable pads fabric:
Top layer: Soft synthetic suede helps move moisture towards the absorbent layers beneath.
Absorbent middle layers: Four bamboo-cotton layers in sizes A–D, and three in size E, help absorb and retain moisture.
Base layer: Waterproof-backed synthetic suede provides an additional protective barrier.

How Absorbent Are Glenndarcy Washable Pads?
Dogs produce different amounts of urine depending on their size, fluid intake, activity and individual circumstances. A pad suitable for light marking may not be suitable for a larger release of urine.
We have carried out practical water-absorption checks on our washable pads to help provide more information on their performance.
In our own testing:
- Smaller A and B size pads were tested using 50 ml of water.
- Larger C, D and E size pads were tested using 225 ml of water.
- The tested pads absorbed the water without it passing through their waterproof backing.
These were practical in-house tests, not certified laboratory absorbency ratings.
The volumes used in testing are not guaranteed capacities. Actual performance can vary with the rate at which liquid is released, the position and fit of the pad, pressure from movement and the condition of the fabric.
A Useful Tip About New Pads
When liquid first touches the surface of a new pad, it may briefly bead or move across the fabric before being absorbed. This can occur with textile finishes used during manufacture.
Washing the pad before its first use may help prepare the fabric for absorbency. As with other washable absorbent textiles, performance can change after laundering.
For best results, always ensure the pad is correctly positioned and check it regularly during use.
Choosing the Correct Pad Size
Our washable pads are available in sizes A, B, C, D and E.
The correct size depends on the Glenndarcy pants or belly band you are using, rather than simply your dog’s breed or weight.

The guide identifies compatible sizes for female dog nappies and male dog belly bands.
Do not assume that a larger pad will automatically provide a better fit. The pad needs to sit correctly inside the garment without bunching, folding excessively or extending beyond the intended coverage area.
How to Use Your Washable Pads
- Select the correct pad size for your Glenndarcy product.
- Position the pad inside the nappy, Flexi-Pants or belly band with the soft synthetic suede surface facing your dog.
- Secure the pad using the matching popper fastenings.
- Check that the pad lies flat and covers the area requiring protection.
- Check regularly and replace when wet or soiled.
For dogs with regular incontinence, having several spare pads allows you to rotate them throughout the day while others are being washed and dried.
Washing and Care
- Wash before first use.
- Machine wash at 30°C.
- Use a non-biological detergent.
- Do not use fabric softener, as this may affect absorbency.
- Tumble dry on a low setting.
- Do not iron.
- Allow pads to dry thoroughly before storing or reusing.
